1. Blake Griffin - LA Clippers

No surprise here. Clippers get a beast and should try and trade Randolph but doubt they get any takers.

2. Hasheem Thabeet - Memphis Grizzlies

Not sure he's worth the # 2 but you can't teach height. Great shotblocker but no offense, is a project.

3. James Harden - OK City

Good pick here for OK City. They get a polished scored and there really was no need for them to grab a PG when they have other needs.

4. Tyreke Evans - Sacramento Kings

Kings liked Evans all along. Surprised they didn't take Rubio.

5. Ricky Rubio - Minnesota Timberwolves

T'Wolves need a PG desperately. They get Rubio at # 5. What worries me about Rubio is can he handle the physicality of the NBA?

6. Jonny Flynn - Minnesota Timberwolves

Strange pick. Is a trade coming for either Rubio or Flynn. Seems to be..stay tuned.

7. Stephen Curry - Golden State Warriors

Nelson cannot resist the run and gun style that Curry will fit right in. Good Pick at # 7. Will he actually get minutes for G State? I hope so.

8. Jordan Hill - New York Knicks

Ouch...not that Hill is a bad pick but the fact that Curry goes one slot ahead of NY kills me. Hill is a solid pick here and with David Lee rumored to be leaving as a free agent this could be his replacement.

9. Demar DeRozen - Toronto Raptors
He's a project but could develop into an All Star player. I think he does nothing this season for Toronto but three years from now he could be a factor.

10. Brandon Jennings - Milwaukee Bucks

Reminds me of Monta Ellis. He needs to develop, the time in Italy did nothing for him. Too many holes in his game to take seriously next season. Milwaukee needs help.

11. Terrance Williams - New Jersey Nets

There was a promise in place two days ago. Much better pick that Hansbrough. New Jersey is in full on rebuild mode, going to be a long year Nets fans.

12. Gerald Henderson - Charlotte Bobcats

There is a promise here in place here as well.

13. Tyler Hansbrough - Indiana Pacers

I thought Ty Lawson would be the pick.....wrong Ty. Anyway, he will be a solid role player in the league for the next 10 years. Has a chip on his shoulder don't underestimate that.

Going to be a wild night

Here it is :

1. LA Clippers - Blake Griffin F Oklahoma

This is a no brainer for LAC (I hope). In a draft such as this Griffin is the safe pick.

2. Memphis Grizzlies - Hasheem Thabeet C UCONN

They could easily go with Rubio but Mike Conley picked it up last season and the Grizzlies think he is their PG of the future. They have time to develop a project such as Thabeet.

3. OK City Thunder - Ricky Rubio PG Spain

I cannot see Rubio slipping any further than this slot. Whether its OK City taking him or a trade develops. Rubio is the pick at # 3.

4. Sacramento Kings - Stephen Curry G Davidson

Assuming the Kings do not get Rubio, they take the next best thing : Stephen Curry.

5.Minnesota T'Wolves - James Harden G Arizona St

This would be a solid pick for a young team with a need for a scorer. The pieces are fitting for the T'Wolves, PG will be the focus next

6. Minnesota T'Wolves - Jonny Flynn PG Syracuse

Jonny Flynn has risen up draft boards all season long. # 6 seems about right for a player who has some holes but his strength, speed and ability to take to the rim are huge factors in his rise.

7. Golden State Warriors - Brandon Jennings PG Italy

Could be one of the steals of the draft. Jennings is not NBA ready but in year 2 or 3 the Warriors are going to be a force in the Western Conference. Jordan Hill is a strong possibility here.

8. NY Knicks - Tyreke Evans G Memphis

Upside pick here. Knicks are not in it to win this upcoming season so they can take a chance on Evans who may develop into a versatile PG/SG. He is not the Knicks # 1 choice at this point but they would be happy to have him slip to them at # 8.

9. Toronto Raptors - Jordan Hill F Arizona

Hill slips to Toronto who is ecstatic with this pick.

10. Milwaukee Bucks - James Johnson PF Wake Forest

Big time ACC banger should help toughen up this soft team

11. New Jersey Nets - DeJuan Blair PF Pitt

NJ is looking for a "beast". With Blair on the board he fits this profile.

12. Charlotte Bobcats - Terrance Williams F Louisville

Promise is in place, TWill goes to Charlotte.

13. Indiana Pacers - Ty Lawson PG UNC

I think Lawson is the pick and he'll be backing up TJ Ford until TJ's next injury. This pick will also allow the versatile Jarrett Jack to play more off the ball.

14. Phoenix Suns - Gerald Henderson SG Duke

Solid pick here for Phoenix. Henderson is not flashy but he brings defense, toughness, and some scoring ability to a team that has potential to make a deep run if the team stays in tact and everyone remains healthy.

15. Detroit Pistons - BJ Mullens C Ohio St

There may be a promise in place for the Pistons to take Mullens here. This makes some sense to me but I'm not a huge Mullens supporter. He is a long term project who really needed another year at Ohio State. With this pick Detroit is accepting the rebuilding stage of their franchise. What a great run they had though.

16. Chicago Bulls - Demar DeRozen SG USC

DeRozen slips to # 16. He had a disappointing year with the exception of the NCAA tourney. Too many question marks are what's preventing him from going higher, the talent is there but can he put it all together consistently?

17. Philadelphia 76ers - Jrue Holiday G UCLA

I'm torn on Holiday. He is all over the place when it comes to scouts opinions. Is his disappointing one season due to UCLA's system? Is he the next Russell Westbrook? I was hoping he would return to UCLA and prove himself worthy of a top five pick, he'll get his chance in Philly instead.

18. Minnesota T'Wolves - Omri Casspi SF Israel

19. Atlanta Hawks - Eric Maynor PG VCU

With Lawson gone Maynor is the choice here at #19. There is talk of resigning Bibby which would allow Maynor to play a bench role and not be expected to contribute right away.

20. Utah Jazz - Austin Daye F Gonzaga

Big mystery as to what your going to get from Daye. I think with the veterans Utah has in place this would be a good fit for the versatile although inconsistent Daye.

21. NO Hornets - Wayne Ellington SG UNC

Hornets need someone who can step up and score. Ellington will get plenty of open looks and should contribute immediately.

22. Dallas Mavericks - Earl Clark F Louisville

Dallas is a team in full on middle of the pack mode. I think this pick comes down to either Clark or Casspi. I'm going with Clark as he is more NBA ready right now. Let's not forget that going into the season Clark was projected to be a top five pick. This could be a steal at # 22 for a team desperate for young talent.

23. Sacramento Kings - Jeff Teague PG Wake Forest

24. Portland TrailBlazers - Darren Collison PG UCLA

For the record I think Portland trades out of this pick. For mock draft purposes PG is the direction I assume they will take if they do not make a trade. Collison who was steady his entire career at UCLA (except in big games) could be the pick here. I projected him originally in the second round as I feel that where his value is, a first round selection and guaranteed contract seems like a reach for him.

25. OK City Thunder - Tyler Hansbrough PF UNC

Hansbrough gives this young team a solid bench contributor.

26. Chicago Bulls - Toney Douglas G Florida St

With Ben Gordon potentially leaving the CHI with the their second pick Toney Douglas is their man. Toney is a seasoned ACC combo guard who really improved his stock in his final year at Florida State. Center is also a need for the Bulls but no real options here.

27. Memphis Grizzlies - Chase Budinger SF Arizona

Chase finds his way into the first round and may help the Grizzlies in a bench role. They need scoring help in the second unit, Chase may slide into that role.

28. Minnesota T'Wolves - Nick Calathes G Florida

For financial reasons the Wolves pick Calathes with the thought of him as an asset for the future.

29. LA Lakers -DaJuan Summers G Georgetown

The Lakers Championship team will be looking for bench help. With the lack of consistency from Sasha Vujacic,Shannon Brown, etc. I would expect the Lakers to go guard or combo guard with this pick. Ariza may be bolting LA as well.

30. Cleveland Cavaliers - Taj Gibson PF USC

The Cavs are in need of another big man. Taj Gibson out of USC is the pick. Jonas Jerebko is a scrappy forward out of Sweden who may be able to help in a year or two but in year two will Lebron still be a Cav?

This may go down as one of the worst drafts in history. I do expect there be some trade activity, mostly from teams that want to trade back or out of this draft. I do like this years crop of point guards though.

Barring trades here it is :

1. LA Clippers - Blake Griffin F Oklahoma

13. Indiana Pacers - Jeff Teague PG Wake Forest

I think he fits the backup SG/SF perfectly on this young team and his defense should get him on the floor rather quickly. OK City is building and this is going to be a fun team to watch next season.

All Star Draft Update

Halfway through the NCAA season there are two contenders for the #1 pick in the draft :

Blake Griffin - Oklahoma Maybe the best athlete in the draft. Has a superb inside game. Explosive dunker, has an incredible vertical leap. On top of all that he is a rebounding beast. I do not see any scenario where he does not go # 1 overall. This is a can't miss prospect.

Hasheem Thabeet - UCONN Hasheem certainly made the right move in staying in school. He is a gamechanger like no other in the NCAA on defense, offense comes and goes. Major improvements have been made throughout his UCONN career and continued progress in reaching full potential justifies a draft selection in the top two.

JaJuan Johnson Anyone?

Sleeper alert : JaJuan Johnson from Purdue.

As I mentioned in my mock draft post back in June :

13. JaJuan Johnson F/C - Sophomore Purdue : Should be a double double machine in the Big Ten in his second season. Was a project coming into Purdue but has increased muscle and has been coached to have more of an impact on the defensive end. Very raw but his potential is what gets him drafted in this spot.

The #13 ranking was higher than anybody ranked him before the season. Now I have heard from two sources that he has started to generate legit interest in that range and could go higher. Keep an eye on this kid and don't forget who had this info first.

Will Rajon Rondo go down as the best player in the 2006 NBA Draft?

Rajon Rondo and the 2006 NBA DRAFT:

Look, I know its early to look back on a draft but I am going to do it anyway.

The first pick made was also the first international player to go # 1 overall : Andrea Bargnani. So far, you can certainly question that pick but the draft overall at least at this point will be looked at as one of the weaker drafts in recent memory.

In my opinion there is one exception :

Rajon Rondo : Phoenix must be kicking themselves right now as there couldn't have been a better fit than Rondo playing in the fast paced Phoenix offense.The Suns essentially sold this pick to Danny Ainge and the Boston Celtics at # 21 and without hesitation Rondo became the pick. There was definetely some risk involved here for Boston as Rondo's college career was a rocky ride on the court due to consistency and player role issues and off the court due to a embattled relationship with Coach Tubby Smith. The biggest negative regarding Rondo was his outside shooting prowess. At the time NBA GM's were looking for that zone busting three point shooting point guard, not your old school play maker type. Guards selected before Rondo included:

Brandon Roy at # 6 who is a top notch SG for Portland

Randy Foye at # 7 who is more of a combo guard,and has battled injuries

JJ Redick at # 11 NBA quality shooter and not much else

Thabo Sefolosha at # 13, combo guard not a gamebreaker, selected too early.

Ronnie Brewer at # 14, good pick; defensive standout and will be one of the best players in this draft.

Quincy Douby at # 19, good scorer in NCAA, not so much in the NBA due to strength and not being able to hold his own defensively has cut his minutes.

So as you see, theres only one guard that you can make an argument that his draft selection justifies itself and that's Brandon Roy. Ronnie Brewer, although a solid NBA guard is simply not an outstanding player by any means.

Now, for the forwards and centers drafted before Rondo, there are two standouts :

LaMarcus Aldridge # 2, once again here's another quality NBA player but being worthy of the # 2 pick is questionable.

Rudy Gay at # 8, is now coming into his own as a player. In fact I would put him in the top three players in this draft and anyone who doesn't think so is crazy.

So now back to Rondo, who I'll remind you was picked at # 21. Was there really 20 players picked ahead of him? Seriously? There are some truly gruesome picks in this draft for sure and NBA GM's have been known to be total morons but come on now.

The top three in the 2008 Hindsight NBA Draft would go something like Brandon Roy, Rudy Gay, Rajon Rondo. Wait, Rajon Rondo? But he can't even consistently shoot free throws why would he be drafted in the top three? Well, there is a mostly forgotten art in today's NBA and that is hustle. Hustle and raw talent combined with the motivation to be a better player is the mix that makes up Rajon Rondo. You want twenty point scorers who are plentiful (right now there are 31 players above 20 ppg)then draft Roy or Gay. I'll gladly take Rondo over either of those players any day. A great defensive point guard is a rare commodity these days and one that can slash and make plays going to the hoop is even more in demand. Now, is Rondo a great shooter, not by any means. The key is that he is working hard at it and it is consistently improving while at the same time Rondo knows his limits. He takes shots in the flow of the offense like a traditional point guard and drives when he can. His # 1 priority is finding the open man, almost to a fault. Rondo is what a PG should be. He's a winner and should make his first All Star roster this season.

It has to be noted that Rondo happens to play with three future Hall of Famers in Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, and Ray Allen. That will make life easier for any young PG, right? Wrong! Sure, those players can make Rondo look better than he is but the fact is that without Rondo the Celtics team suffers almost like the Lakers without Kobe. It's hard to imagine one player especially a young PG who can make that much of a difference to a veteran team. There is also immense pressure when playing with a talent like Garnett who is not afraid to get in your face when you make a mistake. Rondo was able to handle whatever has been thrown at him in his young career and I am going out on a limb here and saying that he will go down as the best overall player in the 2006 NBA Draft.

NBA Vegas Summer League - PreLeague All Vegas Team

Vegas Summer League rosters & schedule in post below. The Orlando Summer League is also underway (Russell Westbrook and Jeff Green killed it) but Vegas is where the best summer NBA action is.

Here is my first team PreVegas Team, expect strong performances from this group :

OJ Mayo PG Grizzlies - Is going to light up this league; no question. MVP favorite. Needs to work on PG skills here.

Eric Gordon SG Clippers - Should put up plenty of points in this style of play

Al Thornton F CLippers - Old man Thornton will prove his future worth as a good NBA player starting next season

Darrell Arthur PF Grizzlies - Not a lot of power in this forward but in terms of this team he should be one of the best rookie players in Vegas. Slipped in the draft due to health concerns.

Amir Johnson F/C Pistons - Numbers will not jump out at you due to the style of play but he is certainly one of the best big men here.

Second Team :

Mike Conley PG Grizzlies - Another promising player in the Grizzlies future. We will see how much he has improved his game and what his health status is.

Rodney Stuckey G Pistons - Second year player showed flashes during the playoffs as a poor mans DWADE. More minutes next season and sixth man role await for Stuckey.

Thaddeus Young F Sixers - Another second year player who will see plenty of increased minutes next season. Sixers have big plans for him and have brought him along slowly. Can play in the post but his game is mid range, his improved strenght will help him immensely next year.

Kevin Love PF Wolves - Should put up solid numbers here, look for more rebounds and assists than scoring.

Spencer Hawes C Kings - Very athletic C, has to rebound the ball a lot better for his size. Offensively, Hawes has the goods and has looked to have bulked up since last season.

Now, here are some other players worth following in the Vegas Summer League.

Mike Taylor PG Clippers - Only one game in, but look for Taylor to make a push for a roster spot next season. You may or may not remember him last season playing for Idaho in the NBDL. (Character issues/Kicked off team at Iowa St.)Fast scoring guard, can create offense for himself but by no means is a polished PG product.

Anthony Randolph F Warriors - I expect him to put up numbers here in Vegas but once the season starts you will not hear anything about him. Randolph is a project and Don Nelson known for burying rookies on the bench.

Louis Amundson PF Warriors - One of the best players in last years Summer League, will bang and put up double doubles here.

2008 NBA Summer League Rosters - Vegas

2009 NBA DRAFT - MOCK DRAFT! - LOTTERY AND MORE.......

Here is a quick glance at some of the top NBA prospects that are returning or will hit the college game in '09.(With the exception of Spain G Ricky Rubio.) The theme of this draft will be the amount of quality sophomores that will be drafted. Although, similar to this season there will be plenty of one and done freshman. The general consensus is this will be a weaker draft than 2008. Just a quick note, I've never been a quantity blogger and the delay in posts was not planned but my interest in hoops has not faded and I will continue to deliver the best unbiased NBA Draft info. Thanks for all the emails and concerns.

1. BJ Mullens C - Freshman Ohio St : Legit seven foot centers simply do not last long when it comes to the NBA draft. Mullens has been on scouts radar for a long time and his one year at Ohio St will more than likely solidify his standing as one of the top 3 picks in the draft. Should be one of the best rebounders in the nation and put up 12-14 pts a game as well.

2.Ricky Rubio PG - Spain : Think of Manu Ginobli as a PG. Has the same fearless, slashing type of game and is an all around pest on defense. Is one of the best players in the top Euro league, will contend for the # 1 pick in the draft. Does not possess great size or strength,may have problems defending the bigger guards in the NBA. 3. Blake Griffin F - Sophomore Oklahoma : Strong, multi dimensional F who if healthy will be a first team All American for Oklahoma. Will be in the mix for the top 3 pick in the '09 draft. Good inside/outside player, does not force shots, can play within an established offensive system and put up consistent numbers. His recovery from the MCL will be a key. More effort on the defensive end is expected of Griffin this season.

4. Earl Clark F - Junior Louisville : Should be the first Junior considered (unless Thabeet jumps ahead,) # 4 may be high for Clark who really has not had a consistent full NCAA season. I see Clark improving his offensive game this season while playing on one of the top teams in the country. Clark is an absolute beast on the boards and at the very least is ready for defense and rebounding at the NBA level. As a focal point for Pitino this season expect an array of double doubles and plenty of drooling scouts courtside.

5. James Harden SG - Sophomore Arizona St : Expect a big second season from Harden in the PAC-10. Had a well rounded freshman season and showed his accurate 3 pt shooting and ability to rebound at the G position. Not the best athlete but finds ways to get er done.

6. Demar DeRozan SG - Freshman USC : USC fans may be mourning the loss of OJ Mayo after only one year but the mourning will stop the night of Midnight Madness when many will get there first look at Demar. Quite frankly the best athlete that will be in the '09 draft. If any of you saw Bill Walker play in high school you can get a good mental picture of the athleticism here. Great in transistion, will score on aggresive drives to the hole has good size and NBA ready body right now. Can he consistently hit the three and be an effective ball handler within an NCAA offense?

7. Haseem Thabeet F/C - Junior UCONN : Defense, Defense, Defense. I don't know how Calhoun convinced Haseem to come back for his Junior season but its going to help him immensely in his transition to the NBA. He came into UCONN as raw as sushi and still is, but you can see how much he has improved each season that makes you think of how good this guy can be. His range offensively is still limited but thats not what will get him drafted this high. He is the best big man defender coming out in '09 and if his rebounding improves he will be top ten pick. Any scoring is a bonus but 8-10 points a game is not out of the question in the NBA for Haseem

8. Patrick Patterson F - Sophomore Kentucky : Had a good first season in Lexington. Was one of the top prospects coming into 2008 but needs to improve his outside play to get drafted this high. Can score from the post with ease at the NCAA level, in the NBA not so much. He will need to add muscle to continue with the current skill set he has now or work hard to improve his outside shot. I think he will do both and be one of the top players in the country next season.

9.Ty Lawson PG - Sophomore North Carolina : Ok, so we know he likes to get his booze on and probably blew his chance to get drafted at # 20 to the Nuggets but another year(and probable NCAA championship) will not hurt Lawson. NBA execs love speed from the PG position and Lawson gives you that and more. Can score but needs to improve consistency from 3 and his defense is OK not great.

10. Austin Freeman SG - Sophomore Georgetown : Highly touted recruit out of the Greater DC area. Will have more responsibilty next season to show his game. Great scorer, can finish around the hoop as well as step out for the three ball. More minutes will result in NBA teams coming around on him. Needs to measure at least 6-4.

11. Darren Collison PG - Senior UCLA : Floor general for one of the top programs in the country. Expect a huge season from him, really had a chance to get drafted high in '08 but will be back for another run. Look for first team All American honors and an improvement in outside shooting.

12. Brandon Jennings PG - Freshman Arizona : Look for Jennings to help fill the departure of Bayless. Will not start right away but will contribute to a more steady Wildcat team from day one. Can distribute the ball to key scorers and can play the transition game. I'm not expecting big numbers though as from what I have seen he looks to be a little undersized and may not be ready right away offensively. He will declare and be one of those players who should return for a second season. We will see.

13. JaJuan Johnson F/C - Sophomore Purdue : Should be a double double machine in the Big Ten in his second season. Was a project coming into Purdue but has increased muscle and has been coached to have more of an impact on the defensive end. Very raw but his potential is what gets him drafted in this spot.

14.Nick Calathes G - Sophomore Florida : Very Active guard who is one of the more versatile players in the NCAA. Closer to 6-4 not the 6-6 listed on the Gator web site. Has good ball handling, can play PG for stretches but more of a 2 guard. Is a slasher, will be extremely effective at driving and dishing and running the pick and roll in the NBA.

That is the lottery as I see it right now. Now here are a few more names for you to research and tell me I'm crazy for not putting in the top 14!

Austin Dave F - Sophomore Gonzaga - Has really improved since he arrived on the Gonzaga campus. I think what you'll see this season is 18 points and 8 boards on a consistent basis. His size is really intriguing, if he can bulk up I would move him up a couple of spots.

Chase Budinger SF - Junior Arizona : Smooth forward with good size (height, not weight). Will float around in an offense and takes his looks when available. Not a dominant player. Great athlete, not a white stiff although he looks like one. HAs a chance to be the man in Zona next season, keep an eye out for him to move up a bit.

Stephen Curry G - Sophomore Davidson : Looks 12 years old and does not have ideal size by any means but is the best player in the NCAA. Many big time coaches are killing themselves over not taking a chance on this kid. NBA scouts are not yet sold on Curry because of the size/strength issue but he has heart, is a winner, and is the best pure shooter in the '09 draft. Good genes from long time NBA veteran Dell Curry doesn't hurt. Can he play the PG? If JJ Redick can get himself drafted (After a DUI, never less) Curry can and will also. Look for him to go in the 18-24 range.

Jrue Holiday PG - Freshman UCLA : One of the nations most sought after recruits stays close to his roots and lands at powerhouse UCLA. I'm not sure at this point what to expect in terms of minutes and what his role will be since Collison returned for his senior year. He can play the 2 guard well but what I think will get him in the lottery will be his ability to be a top PG. 2 years at UCLA will get him there.

Kyle Singler F - Sophomore Duke : Had an uneven first season at Duke. Admittedly needs to improve both on the offensive end and defensive end. Not a game changer but quietly fills the stat sheet. Plays like a Euro. May be a rotation player in the NBA if he can show ability to defend in the post and expand his game. Expect him to stay at Duke post '09, if not he should go in the 15-18 range.

Tyler Hansbrough PF - Senior North Carolina : Psycho T will be one of the few seniors taken which does not fare well for the senior class as a whole. We have all seen what he can do at this point so I wont bore you with the details. Will be a late first round pick to a top playoff team.

Tyrese Rice G - Junior Boston College - Scoring combo guard can heat up and take over a game offensively. How effective will he be in the NBA is the question? His size is an issue and is not a PG by any means. Will be a late first rounder.

2008 NBA Mock Draft - Lottery Picks

Could be another strong draft depending mainly on how the incoming freshman class develops. Ranked in order of potential draft position. Here's my take :

1. Michael Beasley F Kansas St. - As you probably saw in the McDonalds game he is a great athlete with good size, and one of the most versatile players in the draft. Should step in immediately and make a difference for Kansas St. Can play inside and out, tends to play outside a little too much. Looks forced at times.

2. Derrick Rose PG Memphis - Should be one of the top PG's in the NCAA next season. Truly a do it all type of PG. Can shoot although improvements needed, attack the hoop, and create for teammates. Has good size as well. Going to do a lot of damage in Conference USA next season.

3. Darrell Arthur F Kansas - Will be the man next year for the Jayhawks. If his midrange/outside game improves and he shows the ability to play the 3 then he could go this high in the draft. Still needs to bulk up but I'm predicting a drastic rise in his stock over the season.

4. Roy Hibbert C Georgetown - Pulled out of the 2007 draft, would have gone top ten no question. Still has a ways to go and decided he would be a much more NBA ready prospect after another season as a Hoya. I don't think he has a ton of upside but his size and abilities on both sides of the ball are NBA material. Good basketball IQ and passing skills are also bonuses for a big man.

5. OJ Mayo G USC - Should be one of the most prolific scorers in the NCAA in his one season at USC. Has a scorers mentality almost to a fault. Has been known to play out of control and has developed some bad habits. There are also minor character concerns with him as well. On talent alone he may be one of the top three players in the draft but i can see him falling in the 5-10 range.

6. Chase Budinger F Arizona - Tremendous all around player should a little bit of everything in his first season at Arizona. Top athlete with great size although thin frame. Solid shooter from the outside keeps improving. Scouts will be looking to see if he is the type of player to take over games. He has the talent but can he do it?

7. Kevin Love F UCLA - Tough smart PF who should be a premier player in the PAC-10 next season. UCLA is already a loaded team Love solidify s the frontcourt and makes them a strong favorite going into the season. Love is a very unselfish player think of Luke Walton but with much more talent offensively. Could go top 3 depending on the type of season he has against top NCAA talent.

8. DeAndre Jordan C Texas A&M - Going to a situation where he gets major minutes right away. He can hold his own defensively against anyone but his offensive game is still developing. Good rebounder, shot blocker, will add strength as season progresses.

9. Hasheem Thabeet C UConn - NBA teams love upside and Thabeet has a ton of it. The best shot blocker in the country, may be the best defensive player overall in the country. Has great size/length, coming back to UConn was a very smart decision as his offensive game is brutal. If he can make the same type of offensize progress Sean Williams had at BC then he goes this high.

10. Tywon Lawson PG UNC - Should be the second PG chosen after Rose. Made a good decision staying another year at UNC. Mainly needs to work on his shooting, the PG skills are already there. His size may hurt him at the next level.

11. Eric Gordon SG Indiana - Gordon is already a top SG prospect. What to watch for this season is his ability to play PG. Due to his size that is his projected NBA position. He will be picked somewhere in the late lottery unless he has an outstanding season and shows he can play PG.

12. - Devon Hardin C Cal - One of the top center's in the NCAA. Had his name in the 2007 NBA Draft but wisely pulled out. Hardin must show other all around skills besides dunks/layups. Weak shooter.

2008 NBA Mock Draft - Lottery Picks

Could be another strong draft depending mainly on how the incoming freshman class develops. Ranked in order of potential draft position. Here's my take :

1. Michael Beasley F Kansas St. - As you probably saw in the McDonalds game he is a great athlete with good size, and one of the most versatile players in the draft. Should step in immediately and make a difference for Kansas St. Can play inside and out, tends to play outside a little too much. Looks forced at times.

2. Derrick Rose PG Memphis - Should be one of the top PG's in the NCAA next season. Truly a do it all type of PG. Can shoot although improvements needed, attack the hoop, and create for teammates. Has good size as well. Going to do a lot of damage in Conference USA next season.

3. Darrell Arthur F Kansas - Will be the man next year for the Jayhawks. If his midrange/outside game improves and he shows the ability to play the 3 then he could go this high in the draft. Still needs to bulk up but I'm predicting a drastic rise in his stock over the season.

4. Roy Hibbert C Georgetown - Pulled out of the 2007 draft, would have gone top ten no question. Still has a ways to go and decided he would be a much more NBA ready prospect after another season as a Hoya. I don't think he has a ton of upside but his size and abilities on both sides of the ball are NBA material. Good basketball IQ and passing skills are also bonuses for a big man.

5. OJ Mayo G USC - Should be one of the most prolific scorers in the NCAA in his one season at USC. Has a scorers mentality almost to a fault. Has been known to play out of control and has developed some bad habits. There are also minor character concerns with him as well. On talent alone he may be one of the top three players in the draft but i can see him falling in the 5-10 range.

6. Chase Budinger F Arizona - Tremendous all around player should a little bit of everything in his first season at Arizona. Top athlete with great size although thin frame. Solid shooter from the outside keeps improving. Scouts will be looking to see if he is the type of player to take over games. He has the talent but can he do it?

7. Kevin Love F UCLA - Tough smart PF who should be a premier player in the PAC-10 next season. UCLA is already a loaded team Love solidify s the frontcourt and makes them a strong favorite going into the season. Love is a very unselfish player think of Luke Walton but with much more talent offensively. Could go top 3 depending on the type of season he has against top NCAA talent.

8. DeAndre Jordan C Texas A&M - Going to a situation where he gets major minutes right away. He can hold his own defensively against anyone but his offensive game is still developing. Good rebounder, shot blocker, will add strength as season progresses.

9. Hasheem Thabeet C UConn - NBA teams love upside and Thabeet has a ton of it. The best shot blocker in the country, may be the best defensive player overall in the country. Has great size/length, coming back to UConn was a very smart decision as his offensive game is brutal. If he can make the same type of offensize progress Sean Williams had at BC then he goes this high.

10. Tywon Lawson PG UNC - Should be the second PG chosen after Rose. Made a good decision staying another year at UNC. Mainly needs to work on his shooting, the PG skills are already there. His size may hurt him at the next level.

11. Eric Gordon SG Indiana - Gordon is already a top SG prospect. What to watch for this season is his ability to play PG. Due to his size that is his projected NBA position. He will be picked somewhere in the late lottery unless he has an outstanding season and shows he can play PG.

12. - Devon Hardin C Cal - One of the top center's in the NCAA. Had his name in the 2007 NBA Draft but wisely pulled out. Hardin must show other all around skills besides dunks/layups. Weak shooter.

13. L.R. Mbah a Moute F UCLA - Lot of potential here reminds me of Jeff Green. Has good size, still developing most of his skills. His progress this season will determine what kind of prospect he will be. Tends to disappear during games, still raw.

2007 NBA Mock Draft Final

Draft night is here, there should be plenty of action.

1. Portland Greg Oden C Ohio State Not so obvious choice in my opinion, I think Durant is the better fit for this team right now.

2. Seattle Kevin Durant F Texas The best player in the draft falls right into Seattle's (for now) lap. I haven't seen a player with this type of offensive arsenal since Kobe. The only downside is his strength right now and the impact it will have on his defensive ability.

3. Atlanta Al Horford F Florida When its all said and done I think they end up with Mike Conley. Whether they take him here or not remains to be seen but I can see them taking Horford then putting him in a trade.

4. Memphis Corey Brewer G Florida Horford or Conley would be ideal but Brewer is one of new GM Chris Wallaces' favorites.

5. Boston Joakim Noah F Florida Boston needs players that can play now and Noah really impressed the C's during workouts. Hate this pick by the way.

6. Milwaukee Jeff Green F Georgetown Jeff Green, one of the most versatile players in this draft falls here. This pick will probably be traded at somepoint, I'm thinking to Golden State.

7. Minnesota Spencer Hawes C Washington The Wolves are desperate for a big man and Hawes is a perfect fit. Needs to get toughter on the defensive side but has the NBA ready offensive game to warrant the #7 pick. They like Jeff Green but he should be gone by now.

8. Charlotte Brendan Wright F UNC Huge upside pick here, I think they would love to take Noah as this team is already too young. Charlotte has #22 as well.

9. Chicago Mike Conley PG Ohio State Chicago stocks up a very valuable trade asset in Conley and could help facilitate a trade for a number of players including Kobe, Randolph, KG. If Conley sticks around Hinrich could play SG for stretches and make Ben Gordon expendable.

10. Sacramento Yi Jianlian F China Yi wants to play on the West Coast, he gets his wish with Sacramento. They have other needs but Yi at 10 is not quite the riskas say #5 going to the Celtics and with this pick they have a valuable trade asset.

11. Atlanta Acie Law PG Texas A&M Atlanta has guaranteed that if they still have this pick Law is their man.

12. Philadelphia Al Thornton F Florida State Thornton is sliding a bit due to height and age concerns but he can score and proved himself in a tough conference. Philly needs to take the best player available and Thornton is it. Bonus is he can play right away.

13. New Orleans Nick Young G USC Hole at SG filled for the Hornets. Young should be able to get major minutes immediately here. Thaddeus Young should get serious consideration as well but he is not NBA ready at this point.

14. LAC Javaris Crittendon PG Georgia Tech Point guard is the need with Livingston's future in doubt. Crittendon is a legit PG with good size and a huge upside but should have played one more season at GT.

15. Detroit Rodney Stuckey F E.Washington Stuckey is the pick here to Detroit. They need more athleticism and someone who can step in and score some points alongside Rip.

16. Washington Julian Wright F Kansas Washington needs help in the frontcourt so best Wright is the way to go here. Wright is an extremely talented kid who would've gone higher in a weaker draft..

17. New Jersey Jason Smith C Colorado I think Carter stays in NJ so a big man is the pick here. Smith is not a traditional big man as he is best outside the paint but NJ has Kristic coming back next season and Smith could open up some space for him.

18. Golden State Sean Williams C (formerly of Boston College) This may be a little high for a player with this type of track record but a center combo of Biedrins and Williams is outstanding and too hard to pass up.

19. LAL Thaddeus Young F Georgia Tech Best player available and could be used in many trade scenarios (Minnesota KG deal) as if Young stayed on more year at GT he would be top 5.

20. Miami Josh McRoberts F With Sean Williams off the board Miami needs more overall youth in the backcourt as well as in the frontcourt. The fans will hate this pick as McRoberts is widely viewed as an underachiever but he is extremely athletic and can do a lot things well. Just don't ask him to lead the team and score 20 a night.

21. Philadelphia Morris Almond G Rice With their second pick Philly takes a lights out scorer in Almond. If Morris is not the pick I could see Marco Belinelli or Rudy Fernandez going here instead.

22. Charlotte Rudy Fernandez SG Spain The best SG in Europe. Tremendous athlete as well, could play along Adam Morrison for some defensive mismatches.

23. New York Daequan Cook G Ohio State NY is rumored to have a promise in place here to either cook or Wilson Chandler. With a solid frontcourt, Cook could add immediate guard help to a weak team. If Sean Williams is on the board could go here and Channing Frye or David Lee moved.

24. Phoenix Marco Belinelli SG Italy Even with Barbosa, Belinnelli would be a great fit here for Phoenix. Belinelli is an open court, fast break type and may be able to play a little PG as well.

25. Utah Nick Fazekas F Nevada Utah could use a big man but none should be available worth taking here. Another shooter in Fazekas would improve an already excellent perimeter offense.

26. Houston Aaron Affalo SG UCLA Houston's G situation isn't great and Affalo hopefully will learn to play the PG as well. Houston is trying to move down and Luther Head is available, Affalo fills in right away.

27. Detroit Petteri Kopenen With Detroit's second pick Kopenen fills a potential need at PG. They could also go with Jared Dudley who is a player who can play both SG/SF. He carried Boston College all season long with his scoring, rebounding and intensity.

28. San Antonio Tiago Splitter F Brazil Splitter won't play in the NBA next season but should be pick in the first round regardless. He is a tough defensive minded center who can contribute right away. His offensive game is a work in progress.

29. Phoenix Derrick Byars F Vanderbilt Solid 4-year player who played SG/SF and even flashes at PG. Really stood out in the NCAA tourney during Vandy's run. He slips due to lack of upside GM's desperately covet more than actual proven talent.

30. Philadelphia Glen Davis F LSU Philly's third pick may turn out to be a steal in terms of value since he can match up against athletic PF's and even C's. Davis should be a serviceable big man right away due to his strength and decent offensive game but his weight needs to stay in control so there is risk involved. I could see Alondo Tucker fitting in here as well.

Version 2. Less than a week away is the 2007 NBA Draft, a final mock will be delivered Wednesday and updated Thursday.

1. Portland Greg Oden C Ohio State Not so obvious choice in my opinion, I think Durant is the better fit for this team right now.

5. Boston Corey Brewer G Florida Horford would be ideal but Brewer would immediately make Boston's starting backcourt of Rondo and Brewer one of the best defensively in the East.

6. Golden State (From Milwaukee) Yi Jianlian F China I think Chancey Billups may end up in Milwaukee so Conley is not the pick here and a trade to the Warriors is a strong possibility for Jason Richardson. Yi would like to play on the West Coast and Golden State is rumored to be high on him.

7. Minnesota Spencer Hawes C Washington The Wolves are desperate for a big man and Hawes is a perfect fit. Needs to get toughter on the defensive side but has the NBA ready offensive game to warrant the #7 pick.

8. Charlotte Joakim Noah F Florida Charlotte has a track record of taking proven NCAA talent and Noah would bring endless energy and winning attitude to a franchise in need.

9. Chicago Mike Conley PG Ohio State Chicago stocks up a very valuable trade asset in Conley and could help facilitate a trade for a number of players including Kobe, Randolph, KG. If Conley sticks around Hinrich could play SG for stretches and make Ben Gordon expendable.

10. Sacramento Jeff Green F Georgetown Conley would be #1 on the Kings wish list but instead Jeff Green one of the most versatile players in this draft falls here. The selection of Green makes the inevitable departure of Ron Artest a little easier.

The Ongoing Kobe Bryant Situation

Kobe has once again requested a trade out of LA. The Lakers will not trade him to a Western Conference team and since he has a no trade clause the options are even further limited. Kobe has mentioned three teams he would waive this no trade for:

Chicago
New York
LA CLippers

Playing in a major market is obviously crucial to Kobe so New York would be ideal but there is not enough pieces there to make a deal. Atlanta was not of the OK'd teams but a packing starting with Joe Johnson and Marvin Williams would be interesting to LA.The Clippers have no chance at all so that leaves Chicago. Kobe would love to replicate MJ and would have a realistic shot to take the Bulls to the NBA finals in his first year.

The deal on the table is something along these lines, these are the principals involved:

To LA : Andres Nocioni (Sign & Trade) ,Tyrus Thomas, Ben Gordon
To Chi: Kobe Bryant, Ronny Turiaf

There may also be other salary fodder thrown in to make the deal happen and maybe a swap of draft picks as well.

Latest News..............Team Private Workouts Commence

As of June 5th teams have scheduled workouts for top prospects on their boards. As workout info is known it will be incorporated into the latest mock.

Trade talk : Boston seems to be in the mix with many teams/scenarios wanting a crack at the #5. Potential partners include Chicago, Golden State, and Houston. Charlotte is active as well having the #8 and #22 picks.

Seattle with #2 and #31 and Phoenix with #24 & #29 have been very active as well. A Marion trade may be the centerpiece in a blockbuster trade come draft night (Celtics can dangle D.West, Theo Ratliff expiring,Gerald Green, and #5 pick)........................Robert Swift may be available for the right price from Seattle.

Stuckey to the Pistons? Rumored guarantee which may be garbage but it makes sense that the Pistons are interested at #15. I think he could go as high as #11 or at #13 would work also.

Marvin Williams available? The Hawks may be interested in moving Williams, the price will be steep but they are looking for another impact rookie to go with Mike Conley Jr.

This is in actual draft order except for the four playoff teams left. I still think this is one of the best drafts on paper that I've seen in the last ten years.

I would not be surprised to see 8-10 perennial all-stars and a handful of solid starters as well. Some international players may even be squeezed out of the first round due to the influx of American talent eligible this season.

Update on some big names and where they stand at the moment

Roy Hibbert C Georgetown - Will be coming out as he has worked his way to be a top ten pick. I am impressed with his passing skills for a big man and I think top 10 is justifiable. This isn't Patrick O'Bryant , lot of growth potential here.

Ron Lewis G Ohio State - Should get a look in the second round from teams looking for a shooter, his overall game can't be overlooked though. Solid throughout and is an above average athlete. Reminds me of a poor mans Michael Redd.

Tyler Hansbrough F North Carolina - Still undersized but as tough as they come. Plays with a lot of passion and will do the dirty things that can be the difference between a win and a loss. Will not be a dominant player in the NBA. Late first rounder.

Mike Conley Jr. PG Ohio State - Has outstanding court awareness for a freshman. Can put up points if he needs to. Top 15 pick right now.

Ty Lawson PG North Carolina - Of he comes out he is a top twenty pick mainly due to a lack of strong competition at PG in this years draft. I think he needs one more season and learn how to play more under control.

Joakim Noah F Florida - Anyone who takes him in the top ten should be fired on the spot. He is what he is, a high motor energy guy. He can help on the right team but you cant expect him to be your franchise cornerstone as a top ten pick should be. One of the sorriest offensive players I have ever seen mentioned as a top pick. Mutombo was more advanced back in the Georgetown days than Noah is now.

Josh McRoberts F Duke - Has announced he is entering the NBA Draft. He should go in the 18-25 range. Does a lot of things well and has good size.

Glen "Big Baby" Davis F LSU - Also has announced his decision to go pro. Has lost a lot of weight and is more mobile but still not sure where he fits in the NBA. Measurements will be a key for him. As of right now he is in picks 28-35 range.

OK heres the deal. The tourney is about to start and this is where players can seemingly come out of nowwhere and rise up the draft board.

Couple Players to watch besides the big names like Oden, Durant, etc...........

Jeff Green F Georgetown - Big East Player of the Year. Can carry a team on his shoulders, plays within the team and can do basically anything on the court at a high level. Hard to label because he can do so many things, just watch and see for yourself. He has been on the late first round bubble all year but now he can really shoot up the board with a strong performance in the tourney.

Bryce Taylor G Oregon - Listed as a generous 6-5 according to Oregon Sports Info Dept. I see him around 6-2 but thats not the point, he is a tough player as he is not afraid to bang down low but he really shines offensively. Is having a nice rebound season after a disappointing sophomore year. His problem will be playing the point in the pros, I think if he can show that he can, he is in the first round no question.

Jared Dudley G/F Boston College - Has been facing double coverage every game since Sean Williams was suspended. Look at the stats as it hasnt affected his numbers much but you can see it is wearing him down. I think this will help him immensely in the NBA as he wont face this type of attention. He is a pure scorer and a good rebounder as well, I compare his college game to Paul Pierce.

Sean Singletary G Virginia - Exciting performer in the tough ACC conference. More of a scorer than a true point. Needs to shoot with more consistency. Reminds me of a bigger Nate Robinson.
Also on Virgina, J.R Reynolds is an intriging prospect as well.

Jamar Wilson G Albany - May only get one chance to see him in the tourney unless they pull a major upset. What your getting with Wilson is one of the best players in the NCAA. Had he played for a higher profile school you may be hearing about him in the late first round of the draft. He is undersized for sure but a good rebounded and his effort alone should get him in the second round, and I think he will stick with the right team.

DJ Strawberry G Maryland - Will be a late first round pick. Has improved every year at Maryland. One of the best one on one defenders in the entire NCAA. His offense is based on a slashing type of game, but can shoot above average as well. Safe pick will make a strong team even stronger.

Mock Draft 1.0 -Lottery

Mock Draft time, I've watched a ton of NCAA games so far and have avoided putting together a mock until now. This draft is almost surreal, there are teams tanking the season in February just to get a shot at the top of the draft. Everyone knows the top two picks but aftet them the draft still looks very deep, especially with freshmen. Draft order is assumed at this point.

1. Boston Greg Oden C Ohio State - This Celtics team is an absolute monstrosity, mainly due to youth and injuries. I think management realizes if there is ever a year to throw in the towel this is it. With the selection of Oden I think you can pencil in the Celtics as a legit Eastern Conference contender right away. This kid is that good, and people need to realize Oden is playing hurt and without the full use of his dominant hand.

2. Memphis Kevin Durant F Texas - The entire package. I have seen impact freshman like Big Dog and Melo but Durant is really on another level. He is a legit 6'9 with a 7'2 wingspan, the comparison you see a lot is Kevin Garnett but Durant is much more fluid with the dribble and has a very good outside shot. He has already shown the ability to take over games and is contantly taking on double teams due to a mediocre Texas team this season. What a consolation prize.

3. Philadelphia Brandon Wright F North Carolina - Another freshman sensation but not on the same level as the previous two above. Really a force down low despite not having a big frame, will need to add muscle. One of the quickest big men in the NCAA. Would be a great fit in an up tempo offense that already has a proven scorer. The are concerns on whether he has the makeup to push himself to be a true star in the NBA.

4. Charlotte Spencer Hawes F Washington - This big man was initially going to enter the NBA draft coming out of high school but had to change his plans when the NBA instituted the one year in college rule. I had seen him in the McDonald's game where he looked good but didnt really stand out but after catching him play this season he looks like he has added muscle and shown more go to moves. He plays center now but would be outsized in a lot of matchups in the NBA, he will need to show more facing the basket skills and the ability to match up with bigger forwards/centers.

5. Phoenix (from Atlanta) Joakim Noah F Florida - Would have gone #1 overall if he entered last seasons draft. Very high motor and will do the dirty work to get wins. He could get bounced around a lot down low in the NBA and while he shoots a high FG percentage it's mainly due to putbacks and close range shots. He needs to show he can shoot effectively out to the foul line extended. Should be solid NBA player and is the "safe" pick in the lottery.

6. New Orleans Robin Lopez C Stanford - Legit seven footer, looks to me like the more polished of the brothers. True Center to a T. Very strong rebounder and also defends well, could help a teams front line immediately.

7. Seattle Julian Wright F Kansas - Wright really does a lot of things well but I'm not sure where his best skill lies. What really impresses me about Wright is his ball handling ability for a player of his size. He looks for the drive a lot and due to his quickness he can succeed doing that in college. His outside game will need to greatly improve to be a complete player.

8. Milwaukee Josh McRoberts F Duke - Another versatile player who looks like he could potentially be the star on the team but really isn't. Similar to Julian Wright but he has a much better shooting game and worse athletic ability. Outstanding length but will need to bulk out to play in the post in the NBA.

9. Portland Corey Brewer F Florida - Really think this kid is going to be a star in the NBA. Solid shooter, great athlete, and has good ball handling ability for a 6'8 player. Will play a lot of SG in the NBA. One of the best defenders I've seen so far this season.

10. Sacramento Al Horford F Florida - The third Florida Gator that will be drafted in the lottery. He gets over shadowed on this team at times but has a lot of skills that will translate to the next level. One is his shooting touch for a big man. he can stretch defenses out to the foul line and really open up an offense. Another is his size and hustle, can scrap for rebounds with anybody and showed that he can hold his own against bigger players like Greg Oden.

11. Chicago (from New York) Chase Budinger SG/SG Arizona - Projects to be a big time scorer after his one season in Zona. Is a true gunner in every sense, has great size and has no problem getting his shot off. One of the best athletes in the draft, rare skill for a white guy.

12. New Jersey Aaron Gray C Pittsburg - True center who has shown improvement this season. Still looks a little slow to me but can rebound and play effectively in the post. Will never be a dominant player or a star but can't be passed up here for a team desperate for size and good psot play.

13. Golden State Alondo Tucker F Wisconsin - Preseason Big Ten player of the year which says a lot in a loaded conference. Could be the national player of the year by the end of the season. Reminds me of a more offensively polished Tony Allen. Has also great defensive skills and runs the floor as good as anyone in the draft. Very versatile, in a lot of drafts he would go a lot higher.

Random Thoughts For The New Year

- Right now Kevin Durant is the best player in the NCAA right now and yes he is a freshman, reminds me of Syracuse when Carmelo was there for that one season. No one is saying this but Durant could be the #1 overall pick in the draft.

- Jared Dudley should be a first round pick in June but will slip due to the depth of this draft. He has carried a mediocre BC team on his back until he got injured.

- Sean Williams WILL be a first round pick in June. He added muscle and more offensive moves in the offseason. Had a triple double last night, and changes players shots more than anyone I can think of. I think he will go 10-15th overall.

- Greg Oden can start for 80-90% of NBA teams RIGHT NOW. He has been dominating using his non-dominate hand except in the Florida game due to foul trouble. Daequan Cook is damn good as well.

-Florida has a great shot of repeating this season, too many weapons (Noah, Horford, and Brewer all NBA material) and Horford has really shown serious improvement.

-Aaron Gray has put in a lot of work on his game and it shows but he is still slow and I question his overall effectiveness as a starter in the NBA

2007 NBA DRAFT Top 5 and more......

This will be one of the strongest drafts we've seen in quite a few years. In recent memory it could be better than the Lebron, Melo, Wade draft. I have at least 20 starter quality players projected in the first round, many superstars in there as well.

NBA teams let the tanking begin...............

#1 Greg Oden Fr. Ohio State - The consensus #1 prospect to come out since Lebron. True center, plays a team game but can dominate when necessary. Should be a first team All American among numerous other awards and is a lock be one and done at Ohio State.

#2 Kevin Durant Fr. Texas - Durant is not far behind Oden at this point and in basically any other draft Durant would go #1 overall. He is a wing player with great size and has a nice stroke from the outside. Will add muscle this season down in Texas and be even more impressive for the NBA draft in June.

#3 Marcus Williams So. Arizona - Really like this kids game as he can play both spots with equal effectiveness. I think he will be one of the best players in the nation this season and NBA scouts will be watching him very closely.

#4 Tyler Hansbrough So. North Carolina - Played very well last season as a freshman on a team where he was constantly double teamed due to lack of surrounding talent. He was thinking of coming out last season but made the right choice to come back for another year. Can bang down low, also can step out and drain the mid range shot. Needs to measure at a legit 6-9 for him to go this high. UNC is a more talented team especially at the guard position. I see a huge year from Hansbrough.

#5 Thaddeus Young Fr. Georgia Tech - Another one and done from a really strong freshman class. Versatile left handed wing should have an immediate impact on the Yellow Jackets this season. Needs work but on talent alone should go not much later than Top 5 overall. Extremely long wing span should hit the offensive glass hard in college will need to add strength to do in the pro game.

Next tier

Aaron Gray Sr. Pitt - Experienced true center who routinely puts up double doubles. Rebounds like he should at his size, will mix it up with anyone. Will go high in the draft if he keeps improving his game. Needs to show that he can survive in a more up tempo offense. Others have more potential but for a team looking for a big early after Oden goes #1 this is the guy.

Josh McRoberts So. Duke - Made a good choice coming back this year even though he wouldve went Top 1o in last years draft. I saw him do many things good last season but nothing really stood out to be exceptional to me.

Joakim Noah Jr. Florida- Not as high on Noah as others. I think he is a great shotblocker but he needs to add a lot more muscle to be a good pro. I also havent seen much of an offensive game either. Should go in the 15-20 range.

Glen "Big Baby" Davis F LSU -Will his offseason regimen help him in the tough SEC?

Sean Williams F Boston College - Big time shot blocker and rebounder, offensively raw but if Saer Sene can get drafted in the first round I would think Williams could be as well.

Can He Be the Rookie Of The Year?

The answer is no. He will be a huge asset to the Celtics this year no question but Brandon Roy or Randy Roye have to be the favorites going into the season. Simply put they will get more minutes and more of a chance to be the first or second option on a lot of plays.

Rondo will play a key role but I only expect him to average around 8 ppg. However, he will also pull down 5 rpg and hand out 5 apg. He will also play D on the opponents best PG or SG, could be good for a steal or two a game.

Bottom line is the Celtics ( GM Danny Ainge) quite possibly have got another steal in the draft with Rondo at #21, the rookie of the year no chance but a key contributor for years to come absolutley.

Top Five High School Seniors

Here is a look at the class of 2007. They will eligible to be in the 2008 NBA Draft. Here are some names to look for.

1. OJ Mayo PG - Ohio's finest, expected to be one and done at USC or wherever he decides to go. Projects to be a great pro, has good size, leadership skills and an improving mid range shot to go along with a strong 3 point shot. Attacks the basket with aggression, can finish after contact and in traffic.

2. Eric Gordon SG- Indiana sharpshooter hs been called the best pure shooter to come out of high school since JJ Redick. Like Reddick his size and weight are issues at this point but after a year or two in the NCAA, I think you could be seeing a mix of a more polished Gerald Green type athlete with the shot of JJ Reddick. Will he be able to play the point?

3. Donte Greene PF- Syracuse commited lanky scorer/shotblocker, think Hakim Warrick with a jumpshot. Not as raw as Warrick was at his age though. He will need to continue to refine his mid range game to get NBA scouts even more interested as he will be asked to play SF in the pro game.

4. Michael Beasley PF- Oak Hill standout, plays an inside outside game which makes him unstoppable at the top high school level. May take more time to adjust to the college game than others and his quickness will be a concern but at his size double doubles will be the norm. May rise as high as the #2 propspect over the course of the season. Needs to improve overall ball handling skills.

5. Bill "Sky" Walker SF- Another Ohioan, not sure if he reminds me of Rodney Carney or Shane Williams or a combination of both but either way you could make the case that he should be a lot higher than #5 on this list. Can shoot the ball, but is known more for his ridiculous dunking ability, Vince Carter (before injuries) type hang time. His shot should come around to be much more consistent than it is now as Walker is known to be a gym rat. Can score on literally anyone at the high school and maybe even college level.

Many of the early picks in the draft you wont see on my team as they wont get the consistent minutes these players will get, however in the long run many of these players will turn out to be better than the ones on this team.

All Vegas Team

Vegas Summer League has been completed. Here are my All Vegas Summer Team members. Stay tuned for my Rocky Mountain Revue Team as well as the all Summer League Team. Also I suggest anyone that doesnt have NBA TV to seriously consider getting it, these games are entertaining as hell.

Note: Minimum of 4 games played to be considered here.

PG John Lucas III Houston- Maybe the best performing player overall from a statistical standpoint. Averaged over 20 PPG and 7 assists. Will he make the roster? I say he does but I wouldnt rule out a lucrative offer coming in from a team overseas that he accepts instead as he is still undersized and his game is not clearly translatable to the NBA.

SG Randy Foye Min- He was expected to be the man in this league and he indeed was. I do not consider him to be a PG as he is more of a shooting guard that can play the point. Either way he was a scoring machine against competition that was for the most part above average. As of now I think Foye is the preseason favorite for Rookie of the Year honors.

SF Kevin Martin Sac- Had a breakout season last year and I am not really sure of why Sacramento needed him to play in this league. Great scorer, can run with anyone should be even more of a focus for the Kings this year. Sleeper team (not really but still) watch out for them this year.

PF David Lee NY- Very tough call here as there were many candidates that could've been here instead of Lee, Ryan Gomes being the toughest omission. Anyway I went with Lee as the action that I saw he was the most active player on the floor,doing all the little things that help the team win. Averages of 15 PPG and 9 PPG show how solid he was. A very valuable chip for NY right now, will Isiah keep him around?

C Andray Blatche Wash - Had his second solid summer league season although there wasnt a lot to choose from at the center position. Blatche is a very athletic big man who has plenty to learn before he is ready for big time action. Two years away in my opinion of contributing to a winning team.

Honorable mentions-

Ryan Gomes F Bos- Celtics had a very strong team with Telfair, Green, and Rondo among others but Gomes was clearly a man among boys here. In fact I think he really had no business being here except to work on his outside game (which he did). Major player next year in Boston. Not a superstar but SOLID.

James Singleton F LAC- Summer league veteran who really showed off the skills that he doesnt get to show playing on a contended like the Clippers. Wow did I just say that? Anyway in the games I saw he seemed to be working more on his outside game. I think hes a player and could help many teams.

Oleksiy Pecherov F Wash- I like this kid. The pick to Washington in the first round baffled me a bit but he is a very good prospect. Not sure how much he will contribute this season, he should be in the rotation though at least to start the season.

2006 NBA Draft Wrap

Thanks to all that visited the site this year, traffic more tripled from last year, hope to have a better looking, more improved site next year as well. In the coming months I will have summer league coverage (all summer league team), my preseason all rookie team, as well as my 2007 NBA Mock Draft. Unlike this draft there will be a clear #1 (Oden).

2006 NBA Draft Wrap

Probably the craziest, most unprediticable draft I have ever covered. Between the lack of uncertainty as well as the trades it was entertaining to say the least. Below I have a quick summary of the winners and losers in this years draft.

Winners:

Portland:

2. LaMarcus Aldridge PF Tex. So.
6. Brandon Roy SG Washington Sr.
27. Sergio Rodriguez PG Spain 1986
30. Joel Freeland PF England 1987

Although they way thet got the picks was a little strange, they ended up getting many key pieces for the future. Its clear they are in rebuilding mode and to come out of this draft with Aldridge and Roy, two of the best players in the NCAA this year, as well as future PG Rodriguez who will help offset the loss of Telfair, a truly amazing draft. Freeland is a guy who may turn out to be a scrappy player in a couple years from now, good pick at #30.

Utah:

14. Ronnie Brewer SG Arkansas Jr.
46.Dee Brown PG Illinois Sr.
47. Paul Millsap PF Lou. Tech Jr.

I liked the draft for the Utah Jazz. Ronnie Brewer is a guy I though could go as high as #7 to the Celtics, tremendous defensively and should get major minutes right away playing alongside and backing up Deron Williams. Dee Brown is a guy who would've went first round last year but got injured , he has a tremendous motor and should be able to help increase the pace as well as play solid D. Now for the sleeper in the draft, this years second round gem Paul Millsap. He was the leading rebounder in the country last year and with the opportunity to play I think he has a shot at being a 7-10 rebound per game guy coming off the bench. Offense needs to improve though.

Memphis:

8. Rudy Gay SF UConn So.
24. Kyle Lowry PG Villanova So.
45. Alexander Johnson PF FSU Jr.

Ok, I am not the biggest Rudy Gay fan but this guy was projected to be the #1 overall pick as little as 3 months ago. He could be another Charlie Villanueva who breaks out after leaving Calhouns system at UCONN. The second pick is a good one as well as Lowry would have greatly improved his stock if he came back to Villanova for one more season. Is a strong player for his size, can take anyone off the dribble, needs to improve his J though. The addition of Alexander is solid as I thought he could be picked as soon as #15 to New Orleans. He should bring needed athleticism to the Grizzlies froncourt.

Honorable Mentions:

Chicago Bulls- Tyrus and Thabo is going to make sure of a great future to come for the Bulls. Great moves to get them when they did as well. Look for them to be serious contenders in 2007-2008.

New Orleans- Someone out of the Hilton Armstrong, Cedrid Simmons, Marcus Vinicius trio is going to be a stud so why not just draft all three, what the hell. Peja Stojacovic is also rumored ot be signing here as well so I like the idea of taking chances and filling a need.

Losers

New York:

20. Renaldo Balkman SF So.Car. Jr.
29. Mardy Collins PG/SG Temple Sr.

Ok, this was almost too easy, not a total disaster though. The good part of this was Mardy Collins, who I liked coming out of Temple. He's a player who was held back in Chaney' system at Temple, should play a lot next season even with the glut of guards in NY cause he can match up well against bigger guards. Now to the bad. Isiah did not disappoint thats for sure. Like Jay Bilas said Balkman was a guy who was not on anyones board as a first rounder so why pick him there? Made no sense at all. Balkman can play theres no question and he would surely have been drafted in the middle of the second round but a trade down would have been the best scenario here for Isiah. Balkman also doesnt seem the best fit with all the players ahead of him on the depth chart, totally baffles me considering who else was on the board at that point!

Seattle:

10. Saer Sene C Sen. 1986
40. Denham Brown SG UConn Sr.
53. Yotam Halperin PG Israel 1984

I absolutely hate this draft. Yes I saw the higlights video of Sene but they were just the highlights, they didnt show the bad. This guy is so far away from contributing its unfathomable that he was pick #10 overall in the NBA Draft. I mean he just statred playing the game in 2003, averaged a whopping 3 (yes 3!) points per game last season. I would expect that to be his average in the NBA as well, and should easily surpass his scoring average with his block shot average. Long ways away my friends, I thought Seattle could do better. (Carney, Sefolosha, Douby). The Denham Brown pick was OK and he will be a player I will be watching closely in the summer league. Halperin will never be a factor for this team.

Washington:

18. Oleksiy Pecherov PF Ukr. 198
49. V. Veremeenko PF Bel. 1984

I thought they would go with players that could help out now considering they are not thay far away from building a serious contender. If I am Washington I take Marcus Willams or Shannon Brown,someone that can help them NOW especially defensively.

Dishonorable Mention- A lot of people didnt like what Phoenix did by basically putting their picks up for sale but if you look at that roster there are young core players that need to be locked up contract wise and the money needs to be there for them so in a supposed weak draft I dont have a problem with that, although I thought a run in the second round for Dee Brown wouldve been nice. That said, Golden State is another loser in my book. I'm not the biggest O'Bryant fan I think he capitialized on a great NCAA tourney game and has a lot of potential bust in him. Since they decided to go big with the pick I thought Hilton Armstrong or Cedric Simmons wouldve been better selections.

5:17 PM - ESPN is reporting Portland has traded Sebastian Telfair to the Celtics for the #7 pick and Dan Dickau. Bad move for the Celtics IMO.Why not wait until you see who is available at #7?

1. Toronto Andrea Bargnani, PF, Italy - Early Word was Colangelo and Toronto execs (Assistant GM was Bargnanis former coach) are sold on Andrea and will make him the first Euro to go #1 overall. Big man with usual Euro outside skills as well as question marks (toughness,strength). Stock is at a high.Great shooter for a big, will also be able to play down low & rebound once NBA trainers get a hold of him and put him on a program. Right now he wouldnt have a chance. Overall great prospect could be compared to a KG/Dirk. GM's are getting more cautious with drafting outside the U.S so we will have to see how this plays out.

2. Chicago LaMarcus Aldridge, PF/C Texas - Only a sophomore. Most effective outside the paint or in the high post. Seriously thought about turning pro out of high school but smartly decided not to. Ideal size, a top five lock at this point.Had a very stong game against West Virginia in thetourney but then disappeared against LSU. Style reminds me of Mark Blount, not a banger, and this very well could be the bust in the draft considering how high he will be picked. Could be a good fit on some teams like here playing alongside Chandler. Tyrus Thomas or Brandon Roy could easily go here instead.

3. Charlotte Adam Morrison G/F Gonzaga- The premier scorer right now in college. Has a similar game to Larry Bird offensively. Defensively, a big work in progress. His workouts will be huge for him as not every team is going to be sold on him right away. Could slip from this spot or could go #4 (Portland). Will MJ pull the trigger on Morrison? They need the scoring but will Gay be the pick?

4. Portland Rudy Gay G/F UCONN - Dynamic scorer who doesnt push things and plays within his means. Versatile G/F who could florish in on an uptempo team. Could have gone lottery straight out of high school. Can do a little bit of everything well. Can be dominant but is somewhat held back in Calhouns system. Legit player of the year candidate and All American. Stock is slipping after solid but underwhelming NCAA tournament. Will not last much longer than this pick. Measurements were about the same as Tyrus Thomas!

5. Atlanta (For Houston?) Brandoy Roy G, Washington- Fearless leader who is having a phenomenal season up at Washington. Extremely versatile, is a all around threat, including defense.Carried Washington on his back this season. Projects as NBA 2 guard. Paul Pierce type player

6. Minnesota Randy Foye PG, Villanova- Houston trying to move up to #4? The man behind the high powered Villanova offense. Good scorer but also has top notch playmaking ability. Should make a solid pro as more of a combo guard. Stock could really rise with a strong NCAA tournament. Minnesota needs a scorer and may trade up to get it.

7. Boston (For Portland) Tyrus Thomas PF, LSU - Raw freshman talent who plays very strong around the hoop and has shown good rebounding and shot blocking ability.Typical tremendous upside potential pick. Had a spectacular NCAA tournament and I would take him over Aldridge no question. Do not see Foye going here as the C's have DWest in place. Rojon Rondo/Ronnnie Brewer are strong possibilities. Aldridge could slip to this pick and I think Danny Ainge couldnt resist.

8. Houston (For Atlanta?) Shelden Williams F, Duke- Very poor mans Elton Brand.Could be the best defensive player to come out this year. Will it translate to the NBA is the question. The offensive game could use some work as well. May go a lot higher than this based on defense/intangibles.
Harrington may be leaving so help in the frontcourt is needed here.

9. Golden State Marcus Williams PG, UCONN -Checked in a little on the heavy side (earned the nickname the Chubby Thief), with around 12% body fat. Would be a great fit for a team looking for a true point guard if he can stay in shape. Stock has risen since NCAA tournament then has fallen some. Still turns the ball over and plays a little wild at times, not sure I'm sold on him. Pure point would be a great fit on Philly.

10. Seattle Patrick O'Bryant C, Bradley- Strong workouts may put him here. Raw seven footer who is about as inconsistent as they come but will be drafted high based on strong NCAA tournament and pro potential . This is a high risk/high reward pick. Brewer is a possibility here. Trade rumors are all around this pick.

11. Orlando J.J. Redick, SG, Duke - Rumors of a promise from Orlando to Reddick before the DUI.Great shooter/scorer in a similar mold as Reggie Miller. Undersized for an NBA 2 guard. Not much upside at this point but one of the top 3 best players in college basketball. Has carried Duke on his back to big wins thoughout his college career. Best case scenario would be Ben Gordon type role. DUI may hurt his stock.

12. New Orleans Ronnie Brewer G Arkansas- Good defender very lanky, needs to hit the weight room. Smart on court IQ. Height (6-7) allows versatility, plays PG and SG. May have the ugliest shot in the NCAA but it is somewhat effective, needs to improve.Up and down on many teams draft boards N.O needs help at the SG position and potentially the backup PG spot as Speedy Claxton is a free agent, and this kid can play D as well.

13. Philadelphia Rodney Carney G Memphis- Absolute athletic phenom. Plays very solid defense, offensively dynamic a la Ricky Davis. Adding some bulk is a primary focus for him as well as showing he can consistently play within the teams system. Low Basketball IQ may hurt his stock as well as measuring less than expected.

14. Utah Cedric Simmons C, NC State- Is declaring but needs another year at State to get him into next years lottery.Lot of raw talent, hard to pass up a seven footer especially this late. Is staying in the draft.Could go higher. Good shotblocker. NBA Green Room invitee.

15. New Orleans Alexander Johnson, PF, Florida St.- Steadily improving athletic ACC banger has risen up many teams draft boards and is on the fringe of the lottery at this point. Not a dominant player at this point but can be very effective on the low block and can make effective limited use of a high post game as well. Lot of potential here, and as his workouts have proved he shows a strong willingness to improve as well.

16. Chicago Rojon Rondo G Kentucky- Versatile, athletic combo guard with a ton of upside. Can potentially play three positions (PG,SG,SF). Showing inprovement in shooting the 3 ball. Pencil thin frame could be an issue in the NBA. Only a sophomore but very strong chance he comes out as he has been under-utilized in Tubby smiths system. Workouts have been positive so far. Some consider him the top point guard in the draft. Was not an official NBA Green Room invitee.

17.Indiana Mardy Collins G Temple- Comes from defensive oriented program at Temple which limits his offensive numbers. Well rounded game will fit well in any teams system. Needs work on free throws. Good size for a PG. Could be the top PG in this draft, however, others will go higher based on upside potential.Good workouts against other big name PG's should bring him somwhere around this pick or higher . Good fit here as Tinsley is on the outs. Indiana is also hign on Hilton Armstrong not to mention Adam Morrison.

18. Washington Shawne Williams F Memphis- High flyer who will thrive in an uptempo system, should have stayed another season to boost his stock. Could do worse than than than #18 pick as if he stayed another season he could go lottery.

19. Sacramento Jordan Farmar PG UCLA- Probably should have went back to UCLA for one more year but being a potential lottery pick its hard to blame him for coming out. Farmar has true PG skills, improving outside game, and is a great floor general. I like his upside more than Marcus Williams at this point. Farmar also had a very impressive showing in the Orlando Pre-Draft camp. PG should be the pick as Bibby is getting older and could use some help next season. Great athlete.

20. New York Quincy Douby G Rutgers- Excellent offensive player who played on a below grade team in the tough Big East. Can score with just about any move you can think of and has very good range as well. Reminds me of Cuttino Mobley and should have a similar type of role as well. He could entice a team to take him late lottery, we'll see.

21. Phoenix Sergio Rodriguez PG, Spain - "Spanish Chocolate" , Flashy Point guard who can push the ball in this system and may be Barbosa insurance when and if he leaves. If Rodriguez is here at this pick (Kings?) theyd have to take him as Phoenix could use help when Nash is on the bench and what better to learn the game from than Nash.

22.New Jersey Hilton Armstrong, PF/C, Connecticut - Strong inside force with a who plays intelligently with the ball. Takes good shots and has a nice touch from the free throw line. Very good shotblocker. Strong workouts could put him a few spots higher.

23. New Jersey Kyle Lowry G, Villanova - Needs another year in the NCAA but is officially in for good. Outside shot needs work, if improved could be a higher pick next year. Also a bit undersized. With two picks NJ can gamble a bit here. Lowry reminds me of a Will Bynum type.

24. Memphis Oleksiy Pecherov, PF Ukraine - Another Chad Ford special here. This one actually only makes sense for Memphis if there are no PG's worth taking here. A Gasol/Pecherov inside/outside combo could be a tough matchup as they both stand 6'11.

25. Cleveland- Sene Saer C, Verviers-Pepinster - Huge wild card entry here. Scouts are entirely all over the board and considering how raw Sene is you can't be surprised. What we do now is he is strong and athletic and is a legit 7 footer.Reminds me of Samuel Dalembert. Now the issue is whether he can develop an offensive game or will he be a Dasagna Diop/Dalembert type?

26. L.A Lakers- Shannon Brown G, Michigan St. -Solid experienced player, could sneak into the first round. Has an all around game, can slash or step back to hit the 3 ball. Will stick in the league regardless of where he is drafted. May have got a first round promise from a late second round team like LA where he would be a good fit. Mardy Collins or Sergio Rodriguez is a possibility after Smush Parkers collapse in the post season.

27.Phoenix Thabo Sefolosha SG ,Switzerland- Plays in a tough league, may be a good fit for a late first round team who can wait on his development here or overseas. Overall good prospect as his size allows him to play SG/SF and can handle the PG position is small doses. Although defensively solid in Europe, lack of strength may hurt him in the NBA against more physical players. Low yearly buyout option ($500,000) makes him an attractive international prospect.

28. Dallas Josh Boone PF/C Uconn- Smart, scrappy, but unemotional player. Does not make many mistakes on the court but can disappear at times. Not a scorer by any means but shoots very high percentages from the field when he wants to but cant shoot from the line well. Workouts haven't been too hot.Dallas may go international and stash a player for a year or two overseas.

29. New York Guillermo Diaz PG, Miami - Having strong workouts should keep him in the first round. Good scoring PG and one of the best overall athletes in the entire draft. Probably should have stayed at Miami one more season.

30. Portland Marcus Vinicius Vieira de Souza F, Brazil- Lanky forward who can fill it up offensively. From what I have seen plays like a lamar odom although Marcus isn't the rebounder odom is but Marcus is a better shooter. Will need time to develop not sure he gets that here but Portland needs to draft the best available talent.

Dee Brown G Illinois - Lighting quick guard, although undersized, could be a great backup guard for a team that plays a style like Phoenix.

Louis Amundson PF, UNLV - This seasons workout wonder. Seemed to be forgotten on the scouts radar screens but Amundson is a high energy guy who can bang. High Basketball IQ is a plus.

Paul Davis C Michigan State - Quality big man who will never become a star but could be a servicable center in a league starving for big men. Solid career at Michigan State, has played in many big games against top competition. Gives good effort every time out. Not a shock to see him go in the first round.

Hassan Adams G, Arizona -Had a good season finally after everyone projected him to have it last year. Shooting career highs, playing all around good defense as well. A strong tournament appearance could really boost his stock. Getting suspended from the PAC 10 Tournament wasnt the best career move but still could be late first round material.

Paul Millsap PF, Louisiana Tech _ Maybe the best rebounder in NCAA right now. Not much exposure but should rise in workouts/camps. Watch out for this kid, I highly suggest watching clips of some of his games.Huge sleeper.Workouts have been subpar so far he could slip.

Bobby Brown G, Cal St.- Fullerton- late in the draft is when teams tend to gamble a little, here is a somewhat unknown player up until now for fans but not for scouts. He has been widely considered the top NBA prospect in the conference since he was a freshman.

Steve Novak F, Marquette- For a big, one of the best outside shooters in the NCAA. Could have a solid NBA career as a zone buster. If he was a Euro, he may have been a top five pick by now.

Kevin Pittsnogle F, West Virginia- Playing exceptionally well this season should make a big push for the first round. Still a step slow though. Reminds me of the Boston Celtics version of Raef Lafrentz. Could see him going to the Mavericks at #28.

6/27/06 Big changes due to Atlanta/Houston Swap. Also, Celtics are rumored to be trading down if Tyrus Thomas slips, which I think he will. I think Rondo is the C's first choice and backups being Ronnie Brewer, or if neither are there it will be Cedric Simmons.

6/25/06- Could Adridge slip to #7? I don't believe he does but if Chicago takes Tyrus Thomas it could happen. The Shelden Williams situation is an interesting one as well. He could go #5 or slip past the 10th pick and throw everyone off.

6/24/06 -Rumors of a Seattle/Phoenix Trade- Rashard Lewis and pick #10 for Shawn Marion and pick #27? Some filler would have to thrown in as well.

This may be the most unpredictable draft I've ever seen but there seems to be at least a couple of promises to players in the top five at this point.(Roy, Bargnani, S.Williams)? Whatever they are I'd expect to find out over the weekend more details.

6/22/06- Larry Brown has been fired from the Knicks, ya I know not a big shocker there. Isiah will coach next season, so the misery will indeed continue for all you Knicks fans.
